Nature and the Swedish Right to Roam

An important pillar of lagom is its relationship with nature. In fact, ‘Allemansrätt’, or The Right of Public Access, is a cherished right in Sweden. It gives everyone in Sweden the right to roam the countryside, camp, cycle and even forage in peace and quiet.

The Swedish way of being is spending as much time as possible outside any time of the year. There are even preschools in Sweden that stay outside basically all day long. The kids stay healthier and get to be very creative with outdoor learning at a young age.

As a golfer I lean towards fairways and greens as opposed to wooded areas, but I do make sure to get out every day in one way or another. Sometimes it’s just a morning meditative walk or a stroll with a friend. However you choose to connect to nature, the physical and mental benefits are essential for your overall health and wellness.

As the famous Swedish saying goes, “There is no such thing as bad weather. Only bad clothing!”.
